Monkey on Medical Hold

I have been screening homes for Monkey and am in the process of interviewing an applicant that looks like it could be a good match for him. So at this point, I will not be taking any further applications for adopting him.

Having said that, I am placing Monkey on a Medical Hold because he has a cyst on his leg that needs to be removed. The surgery is booked for Monday. Monkey will also require yearly screening of his Thyroid as he tested a low/normal which may or may not change over time. I am also going to start him on Melatonin suppliments to try and help with his thin hair. It has been known to do wonders for dogs with seasonal alepecia and for Poms with Alepecia X, so we're going to give it a try.

I don't feel that Monkey's situation is serious enough to consider him "special needs" however, he does have some special considerations that may or may not have an impact on his placement.

Daisy's been adopted!

I am very, very pleased to announce that Daisy ( now Dixie ) has found a new home. I took her to meet Gloria on Saturday and Monkey came along for the ride. I find it easier to bring another dog along, so that if I should leave without the Foster the drive home isn't so lonely. ;)

I got an e-mail from Gloria first thing Sunday morning and wanted to post it here.

Hi Kelly,

Just thought I would let you know we had an awesome night last night. I did put her in her kennel but she barked and carried on so I thought...OK..you can sleep in bed. Well I was in bed and turned out the light and she was over the gate...*L* So back in the kennel, She cried for about 5 minutes and then that was it. Slept right thru the night and we got up at 5:30 which is normal for me. I put her out but she wouldn't pee so kept trying every 5 minutes and finally after about 20 minutes she had her pee. She had her poop outside about a half hour after she ate so I was really happy. So far not one thing in the house!! She is very at home running around and playing. It's like she has been here for months. She is just awesome. I love her so much. Thanks again for letting me have her!

The cat room still has alot of interest but she is definately very smart. I watch and everytime she goes to the door I just say No and she doesn't go in. In fact a few minutes ago she stood at the door and looked for me...as much as to say...."gee I wonder if she's watching"!! She is just too cute. I am sure in a few days she will not that that room is off limits.

We are off shopping this afternoon...who knows what she will come home with!

I will keep you posted.

Gloria

Monkey/Daisy Update

Monkey is a medium to high energy boy. I fully expect that he will settle down with age. He is a sweetheart who absolutely adores the other dogs. He loves to play ball and will chase/bring it back as long as you are willing to throw it. He also loves to tug - he and Daisy were playing tug for about an hour two nights ago. I bought him a rope toy with two large tennis balls attached and he absolutely loves it. Unfortunately, he will bring it to me and sort of toss it at me to get me to play with him, usually hitting me in the head with the ball. ( ouch! ) He's an absolute love and a pleasure to have at the house.

Daisy is absolutely adorable and although she is smaller than what I am used to ( about 8 pounds ) she can definitely hold her own. She has no problem telling my Whippet where to go and offering fairly exact directions on how she can go about getting there. ;)

I can assure you that the Whippet is asking for it. She loves the IG's, but sometimes can get a bit too much for them. Daisy is fearless and has a lot of energy. Like Monkey, I am confident she will mellow a bit with age. She is not destructive at all but has discovered the toilet-paper roll and has decided that it's fun to stand and roll it out onto the floor. She also loves to play with toys. If you throw the tennis ball and she manages to get it before Monkey or Tango do, she will bring it to you, dance and show it to you. She is really, really smart and can sit on command, I discovered recently. The other bonus with Daisy is that, although you have to pick her up and put her outside, she will pee on command and even if she doesn't have to go, she will try to squeeze something out. This tells me that she is very eager to please and understands why she's out there. At this point, I put her out every hour because she is still quite young and needs to be reminded that we pee outside.

My own dogs are trained to ring a bell when they need to go out. Both Monkey and Daisy are very smart, easy to train and I feel could learn to do the same in no time.

I am still in the process of screening homes, this will not be a "first come, first served" situation. I will keep both of them as long as it takes to find the right home. If you are interested in either Monkey or Daisy, please feel free to contact me for a copy of my IG Handbook and a Rehoming Application.

Blessings from the Faerie Laedie

Whippets!

I have had a few people contact me with regard to adopting a Whippet. Fortunately for the dogs ( but unfortunately for those looking to adopt ) there aren't a lot of them available and I have yet to Foster one. I have included Whippets in my efforts because I have a standing offer to help.

If you are interested in a Whippet, please visit the National Whippet Club of Canada site and click on the "Rescue" button, located on the left hand side of your screen. http://www.whippetcanada.com/

Whippet Rescue and Placement ( WRAP ) almost always has Whippets available, but they are not always willing to place them long-distance. http://www.whippet-rescue.com/index.html I refer people to them, anyhow as one never knows the circumstances with each of their Fosters and I would not want to make assumptions.

I also have contacts with the Whippet community in Western Canada and have asked that they contact me if they have anything available. I only refer people to breeders if there are no Fosters available. What I will do is post here with permission when there is something available.

Introducing..... DAISY!!

Daisy is the newest arrival at Faerie Tail. She's just shy of 8 months old, spayed and super cute!

Here's a pic of daisy with Ari and Monkey, to give you a bit of an idea how little she is. The boys are about 12-14 pounds, she's about 8 pounds. She's little but makes up for it with her outgoing attitude. What a firecracker this girl is!

Daisy is up to date on all her shots and was given a clean bill of health from the vet in November.

Because of her energy level, I am looking for a home with another Iggy or small dog. I also recommend a daily walk to help her burn off all that energy. She's fearless and rather acrobatic so I think she'd be a good candidate for Agility.

If you are interested in more info about Daisy, please feel free to contact me. faeryhound@yahoo.ca

Monkey's New Jammies!

Thanks so much to Pixie Dust Creations for Monkey's new jammies! If you look closely at the first picture, you can see the little monkeys on the fabric. Too cute!
