Sammy the Iggie

The following was posted on Iggy Planet and I wanted to post it here, as well. I have no connection to this effort, but have heard from reputable sources that it is legitimate.

Hello friends and family,

I'm writing to you, asking for help for my foster italian greyhound, Sammy. He was relinquished where I work, at West Ridge Animal Hospital, becausehis housemate had parvo and the owner didn't want to deal with the risk thatSammy might also have parvo. The owner wanted to euthanize him or relinquishhim so I took him into my house. He ended up not having parvo and has beendoing great to this point. I worked with Wiseguys Italian Greyhound rescue totry to find him a home and they found a great home for him.

We were literallyweeks away from getting him to his new home (just had to be neutered, andthen meet the girl to get him to his forever home) when he broke both his frontlegs this last Wednesday (01/13). The breaks were fairly clean, no splinters, and fit together like puzzle pieces, so there was a good chance that they wouldheal well with splinting, but the first few days are crucial to know how well thefractures would set. Unfortunately, the fractures did not stay set and are moving and require surgery.

There are several options with repairing fractures, but thiscase is hard because BOTH front legs are broken. The best option for healingis to have "elastic plates" put on the fractures and then have his legs casted toallow the plates to keep the fractures set while he heals. Unfortunately for us,this is quite pricey. The rescue just had another IG with a broken leg and 7 puppymill dogs and does not have extra funds to help out but is trying to spread theword that I need help and asking for donations for us. His future owner is trying toraise funds as well to help out also. I am writing to ask if anybody can help by donatingto help us out to cover the cost of surgery. The orthopedic specialist doing the surgeryhas offered to take about $1200 off of his cost, and work is offering me discountson services and to volunteer some services as well to cut the cost. Every little bit helps. If you can help or spread the word for help it would be greatly appreciated.I don't have a "click to donate" option online at all, but if you want, you can call the hospital and make a donation, we have a special account set up for collecting forhim. Thank you in advance, from Sammy, from Me, from his future mom - Jenn.
Thank you again,
Audra
